GAYA CERAMIC AND DESIGN - Technique - Glazes
Glazing is functionally important for porous earthenware vessels,
which would otherwise be unsuitable for holding liquids. Glaze is also
used on functional and decorative stoneware and porcelain to achieve
surface characteristics necessary to specific food uses. But glazes are
obviously more than just functional: the variety of surface finishes,
degrees of gloss and matte, variegation and finished color, are key to
the aesthetic quality of the product. Glazes may also enhance an
underlying design or texture, ranging from the "natural" texture of the
clay to an inscribed, carved or painted design.
With a dedicated glaze R&D department, Gaya Ceramic and Design
pushes research on colours and surfaces to its limits. Having created
tens of thousands of unique glaze samples, we understand that colours
and surface feelings must exactly match our client’s aesthetic vision;
so in our laboratory we create exclusive colour palettes for our
customers. Starting from Pantone's suggestions we can provide line
blends of colour options to find a perfect glaze effect, always
lead-free with precise mechanical strength and surface characteristics
necessary to sustain the ceramic’s operational use.
